Monaco's iconic Prince's Palace, a historic landmark that has stood proudly since 1297, is undergoing a significant transformation. Spearheaded by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, this ambitious project aims to modernise the Palace while preserving its rich heritage.
The main focus of the renovation is the 'New Wing,' originally constructed in the 1960s, which will see the addition of a new floor designed to blend seamlessly with the Palace’s traditional architecture. This modernisation effort seeks to enhance not only the building’s aesthetic appeal but also its safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability—ensuring it meets the highest standards of contemporary architecture.
Despite the extensive work being carried out, the Palace remains open to the public, offering visitors a chance to explore its stunning State Apartments and fascinating history. The restoration of Renaissance frescoes, hidden for over five centuries, is one of the highlights of the Palace's ongoing evolution. These masterpieces, spanning over 600m², were uncovered in 2015 and have been meticulously restored, providing an extraordinary glimpse into Monaco's artistic past.
Visitors can enjoy the Palace’s rich history, from the ancient frescoes to its magnificent state rooms, while the renovation continues behind the scenes. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique cultural experience in Monaco, the Prince’s Palace offers a perfect blend of past and present.
