Monegasque Athletes Set to Compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics

HSH Prince Albert II, President of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, introduced the five athletes who will represent Monaco at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The presentation took place at the Yacht Club, with LL.AAA.SS. Princes Albert II and Charlene, both former Olympic athletes, arriving hand in hand to meet the young competitors.

Yvette Lambin-Berti, Secretary General of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, emphasized the significance of hard work, determination, courage, and generosity in achieving the honor of participating in the Olympic Games. She highlighted the importance of Monegasque programs, such as the Elite Sports classes, which help athletes balance their studies and high-level training. Lambin-Berti expressed her pride, saying, “For me, it is always a great joy to present these athletes. They have participated in the Mediterranean Games and the Games of Small States, knowing they must work harder than athletes from larger countries. Our selection may be small, but our athletes are tenacious and confident in achieving good results.”

The Sovereign, a former bobsleigh athlete himself, introduced the athletes who will represent Monaco. Lisa Pou and Théo Druenne will compete in swimming, Xiao Xin Yang in table tennis, Quentin Antognelli in rowing, and Marie-Charlotte Gastaud in athletics.

Prince Albert II noted that on July 26th, all eyes will be on Paris for the opening ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games, which will continue until August 11th. He mentioned that some events will take place in iconic Parisian locations, such as the cycling time trial finishing on the Alexandre III bridge and fencing at the Grand Palais. The Prince also reminisced about the arrival of the Munich Olympic flame on June 18th, a moment etched in international history, just as the participation of athletes is.

“I know how passionately you have worked to prepare for these Olympics. We have faith in you and wish you many successes! Daghe Mùnegu!” concluded Prince Albert II.
