Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), renowned for its luxurious hotels and high-end residences frequented by an international, affluent clientele, is also committed to the well-being of its employees. The company has undertaken significant efforts to improve and expand its housing facilities for its seasonal workers. This initiative, driven by the new management of Monte-Carlo SBM, underscores the importance of employee well-being as a core component of the company’s professional attractiveness strategy, making it the largest private employer in the Principality of Monaco.
As the summer season begins, SBM's Construction and Built Heritage Department has completed the renovation of 33 apartments primarily designated for seasonal employees. These apartments are located in two properties, New Beach (Roquebrune-Cap-Martin) and the Residences du Tenao (Beausoleil). Additionally, equipment upgrades, including air conditioning and new kitchen installations, have been completed in a rental building in Cap d’Ail.
This renovation campaign follows an initial phase started last year and is part of a broader program aimed at enhancing employee housing. Initiated by Stéphane Valeri, President-Delegate, the program aims to make these temporary residences as pleasant as possible.
"As a luxury hotel group, SBM must provide comfortable accommodations for its employees within the limits of available beds," says Sophie Vincent, Director of Human Resources at Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer.
Extensive Renovation Details
Luc Leroy, Director of Construction and Built Heritage at Monte-Carlo SBM, detailed the renovation efforts:
- Replacement of windows
- Complete repainting
- Renovation of flooring
- Complete refurbishment of bathrooms
- Upgrading electrical installations and lighting (transition to LED)
- Replacement of furniture
- Renovation of shared kitchen spaces
Spread across three sites—Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Cap d’Ail, and Beausoleil—SBM's housing facilities now offer 210 beds in fully furnished apartments, ranging from studios to four-bedroom units accommodating up to six people. Each apartment features one or more bedrooms, a living room, an integrated or shared kitchen, a communal laundry room, and WIFI access. Some units also provide parking for two-wheelers and cars based on need.
Last year, 113 additional beds were rented in two hotel residences in Menton, bringing the total to 333 beds.
According to Sophie Vincent, housing is a crucial aspect of SBM's HR strategy, aimed at attracting top talent and ensuring employee well-being. It is a significant component of SBM's unique social model. While these housing facilities are primarily for seasonal employees during the season, they also accommodate executives joining the company without local housing, facilitating their relocation during a transitional period. Interns can also be housed free of charge based on the needs of the Group's establishments and availability.
Offering modern comforts and highly preferential conditions, these housing facilities are a key factor in a competitive recruitment environment. The renovation program will continue next year, and the housing capacity will be further expanded. New projects are already under consideration.
