Following 22 years of ownership, the Morris family announced today it was “nostalgic” at the sale of Riviera Radio SAM, the only English-speaking radio station on the French Riviera, broadcasting from Monaco across the coast to St. Tropez.A press release stated, “Riviera Radio will now be owned and controlled by a new structure, which brings two successful media forces together”—Grundy Media and Paul Kavanagh, who will remain as shareholder and Managing Director of Riviera Radio.
“Radio and more broadly audio is growing rapidly, and available on more devices than ever before,” commented Kavanagh, who over the past 40 years has set up and headed several successful media companies in Europe. “More people than ever are wearing headphones, using smart speakers and using their mobile phones to access and consume radio, on demand music and podcasts. We are working hard to improve the listener experience and ensure our growth continues.”
Grundy Media was founded by the late Reg Grundy AC OBE, who along with his wife Joy created and owned a library of over 160 top-rated television series and movies, produced in over 76 countries. Shows include the long-running hits “Neighbours,” “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Questions Pour Un Champion.” The successful company sold in 1995, and the popular catalogue of Grundy shows are now part of the Freemantle Media library.
Grundy Media is headed by Joy Chambers-Grundy, who will join the board of Riviera Radio. “We are most honored and delighted to become part-owners of the unique Riviera Radio, a station I have listened to multiple times in the past. I am excited by this amazing acquisition,” stated Chambers-Grundy, who is behind the Monaco Streaming Film Festival which brings international media professionals to the Principality.
Since it launched 35 years ago, Riviera Radio has worked alongside and supported local businesses and the community through its strong on-the-ground relationship with its high-end audience, making it a trusted companion, reliable news provider and source of entertainment. Today through its digital development and website, Monaco-based Riviera Radio attracts a worldwide audience of both listeners and readers.
The statement noted it is an “exciting wave of change for Riviera Radio as Grundy Media comes onboard.” Riviera Radio is the only local radio station in English and broadcasts on 106.5 FM, 106.3
FM and DAB+ across the south of France.
