Patrice Cellario to Step Down as Monaco's Minister of the Interior

After serving for nine years, Patrice Cellario will be officially replaced by Lionel Beffre as Monaco's Minister of the Interior.

A significant change is taking place within the Princely Government! By decision of Prince Albert II, Lionel Beffre will become the new Government Advisor-Minister of the Interior starting August 5, 2024.

Lionel Beffre, a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and the National School of Administration, began his career as prefect of Eure-et-Loir, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and Lot-et-Garonne. He later served as High Commissioner of the Republic in French Polynesia, Prefect of Isère, and Prefect of Seine-et-Marne before most recently serving as Chief of Staff for the Minister of Overseas France.

His extensive experience, which includes high-level roles such as Director of Administration at the Paris Prefecture and Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, will benefit the security and quality of life of Monaco's residents.

After nearly a decade in the position, Patrice Cellario is stepping down as Minister of the Interior to retire. In an official statement from the Prince's Palace, Prince Albert II expressed deep gratitude for Cellario's "forty-two years of exemplary service to the state," highlighting his "unwavering commitment to his duties and loyalty."

Throughout his career, Patrice Cellario worked in various fields, including public works, environment and urban planning, security, education, sports, and culture.
