Preserving Heritage: Monaco Honors Saint Roman in Annual Cathedral Celebration

On August 9, the Comité des Fêtes de la Saint-Roman, with support from the Mairie de Monaco, organized the official celebration honoring Saint Roman, one of the Principality's patron saints, at his altar within the Cathedral of Monaco.
Alongside Saint Devota (Sainte Dévote), Saint Roman stands as one of Monaco's most revered holy figures. According to historical tradition, Roman was a legionnaire serving under the Roman Emperor Valerian. Tasked with guarding Saint Lawrence, Roman declared his own Christian faith and received baptism, an act that deeply bound his legacy to early Christian martyrdom and centuries of local devotion.
The annual observance underscores the Principality’s commitment to preserving its spiritual and cultural heritage, reinforcing community identity through long-standing civic and religious traditions.
