A significant gathering of experts convened in Monaco last month to address the preservation of the Gulf of Genoa’s rich historical and natural heritage. The “Rencontres du Golfe de Gênes,” held at the Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique de Monaco on September 23 and 24, 2025, marked a pioneering effort to confront the region’s shared vulnerabilities to coastal erosion, avalanches, floods, wildfires, and earthquakes. Supported by the Bouclier Bleu Italie and the PACA region, the event brought together professionals to exchange insights on securing cultural and natural sites that have weathered these challenges.
The conference highlighted a unified approach to conservation and restoration, exemplified by Carilina Vatteroni, a representative of the Palais, who presented eco-responsible measures implemented at construction sites. These initiatives, rooted in applied research, have fostered innovative practices that enhance the protection of heritage, the environment, and public health. For the first time, the discussions bridged diverse experiences, setting a precedent for collaborative action across the region.
