On the evening of Friday, March 28, 2025, Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène officially opened Box98, a cutting-edge sports and leisure complex in the heart of Monaco. The event, steeped in the Principality’s iconic Grand Prix atmosphere, marked the debut of an innovative venue set to redefine indoor entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

Joined by Louis and Marie Ducruet, Camille Gottlieb, and Gareth Wittstock, the Princely Couple welcomed an impressive lineup of sporting luminaries, including world number one cyclist Tadej Pogacar and a host of Formula 1 drivers such as Carlos Sainz Jr., Stoffel Vandoorne, Nyck de Vries, and Jake Dennis, among others. Sporting helmets in their signature colors, Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène took to the track, setting the first lap times on a karting circuit designed to echo the twists and turns of Monaco’s legendary Grand Prix layout.

The evening unfolded with guests immersing themselves in the high-octane offerings of Box98, a 4,700-square-meter facility located on the former site of the Prince of Monaco’s Automobile Collection. This hybrid space blends motorsports, immersive technology, and family-friendly entertainment, establishing a new benchmark for indoor leisure.

A Dream Realized

Box98 is the brainchild of Monégasque driver Clivio Piccione, who envisioned a world-class complex worthy of Monaco’s reputation. “I’ve always dreamed of creating a facility that matches my ambitions and honors our beloved Principality,” Piccione shared. “When a unique opportunity arose, this dream finally came to life.” The project gained momentum following a call for tenders by the Monégasque government in the summer of 2024. Selected in September, Piccione’s initial vision quickly evolved into an even grander undertaking.

Supported by co-founders and a dedicated team of 15 professionals led by Anthony Somma, alongside over 30 technicians, Box98 was brought to fruition in just three months. The result is a multifaceted venue prioritizing quality, design, safety, and connectivity.

A Unique Karting Experience

At the core of Box98 lies its standout feature: a 400-meter indoor karting track designed by Paolo Gagliardini of PGK Design, a global authority in track conception. Elevated on a giant Meccano-like structure for 90% of its length, the circuit replicates the Grand Prix experience with steep inclines, tight hairpins, and a resin-coated surface mimicking asphalt for optimal grip. Safety is paramount, with patented deformable PVC barriers, foam shock absorbers, springs, and Plexiglas walls.

The track is equipped with 30 state-of-the-art Sodikart electric karts catering to all ages: 20 for adults (14+), eight for children (7+), and two dual-seater models for younger riders (4+) or coaching. Each kart features a roll bar, seatbelt, and a digital steering wheel display showing lap times and performance metrics, with Apex Solutions telemetry providing real-time data to drivers.

Beyond Karting: A 360° Entertainment Hub

Box98 offers far more than karting. With nearly 30 activity zones, the complex includes six professional Sector One simulators, remotely controlled mini-buggies, arcade games, precision shooting, basketball, adventure challenges, four bowling lanes, three billiards tables, foosball, and air hockey. A multipurpose room hosts karaoke, blind tests, and festive evenings, ensuring entertainment for all.

The venue’s immersive digital setup enhances the experience, featuring a 13m x 3m LED main screen, multiple additional LED displays, and over 10 kilometers of cabling. A snack bar, boutique, lounge, and VIP area round out the offerings.

A Connected Visitor Experience

Through the Apex system, visitors can register at interactive kiosks, create personal accounts, pay digitally, track performance stats, and earn loyalty points. A dedicated app allows for reservations, result monitoring, and rewards, making every visit seamless and personalized.

Open to the Public

Box98 will welcome the public starting Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Operating hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM, Friday from 11:30 AM to midnight, Saturday from 10:00 AM to midnight, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with Mondays closed.

A Princely Kickoff

The inauguration saw Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène joined by Box98’s creators and the F1 drivers who tested the track alongside them. The event, captured by photographer Eric Mathon of the Prince’s Palace, underscored Monaco’s enduring connection to motorsport and innovation.

Box98 stands as a testament to Monaco’s forward-thinking spirit, blending adrenaline, technology, and fun in a way that promises to captivate visitors of all ages. For more information, visit www.box98.mc or follow @box98monaco on Instagram.
