Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG) in Monaco has taken a significant step forward in the fight against cancer with the acquisition of two advanced medical technologies. These innovations, unveiled on February 3, were made possible through a generous donation of €1.3 million from Lord Laidlaw, a philanthropist committed to advancing healthcare.
The first addition is a state-of-the-art surface radiotherapy system designed to enhance the precision of radiation treatments, particularly for breast cancer patients. Traditional radiotherapy methods could inadvertently irradiate the heart, especially when treating the left breast. However, the new system addresses this challenge by encouraging patients to inhale deeply, which shifts the heart away from the chest wall. This allows for a more targeted approach, significantly reducing the risk of heart exposure during treatment.
The second acquisition is a contact radiotherapy device already in use at CHPG's Skin Tumor Center. This equipment enables the successful treatment of skin cancers that were previously deemed inoperable. Patients can now undergo all necessary procedures, from diagnostics to treatment, in a single visit, offering a streamlined and efficient experience.
The hospital’s continuous commitment to innovation ensures that it remains at the forefront of cancer treatment, providing patients with the most advanced and effective care available. The new equipment not only improves treatment outcomes but also offers hope for individuals facing complex cases of cancer.
