Remembrance and Resilience: Monaco Commemorates 82 Years of Freedom

Eighty-two years after Allied forces and local resistance networks reclaimed the region from wartime occupation, the Principality of Monaco observed its liberation on Thursday, September 3, with ceremonies honoring both collective survival and individual sacrifice.

The commemorations brought together public officials, civil institutions, and residents to retrace the milestones of September 3, 1944. Led by Mayor Georges Marsan alongside members of the Communal Council, the day's itinerary began with solemn tributes, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Maison de France. Proceedings subsequently shifted to the Mairie de Monaco, where participants gathered in the Cour d'Honneur for a communal toast alongside the Committee for Period Commemoration.The afternoon concluded at the Monaco Cemetery with the official Remembrance Ceremony.
