Responding to Wildfires: Monaco’s Foundation Commits Funding for European Ecosystem Restoration

As wildfires continue to devastate regions globally, with Europe facing particularly severe impacts, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has announced its solidarity with affected communities and conservation efforts. The organization expressed support for those working to safeguard landscapes, homes, and vital biodiversity from destruction.

In response to the severity of the damage and the urgency of the crisis, the Foundation is committing dedicated funding to support restoration projects across Europe. These initiatives will focus on restoring local fauna and flora while strengthening ecosystem resilience in the most heavily impacted areas.

For two decades, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has engaged in efforts to reduce wildfire risks through sustainable ecosystem management worldwide. Within the Mediterranean basin, its work focuses on protecting and restoring wetlands, which serve a critical role in mitigating natural hazards.

Through its Donors’ Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems (DIMFE) - a dedicated programme established in 2021- the Foundation has supported over 30 projects aimed at addressing these environmental challenges. These initiatives include practical intervention strategies, such as the creation of firebreaks designed to slow the rapid spread of wildfires.
