Some of the world's most accomplished athletes are set to take part in The Crossing 2026, the ambitious Mediterranean water bike relay organised by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. Departing from Viareggio, Italy, on 19 June and arriving at Monaco’s Larvotto Beach on 20 June, the event combines elite sport, environmental awareness, and philanthropy.

A total of 28 participants, divided into seven teams, will tackle the demanding 225-kilometre route across the Pelagos Sanctuary, the internationally protected marine area connecting France, Monaco, and Italy. The official start will be given by Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco at the Club Nautico di Viareggio.

Among the headline participants is four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome, who joins Team Serenity alongside Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. Also attracting attention is Danish cycling star Jakob Fuglsang, one of the most respected riders of his generation, competing for TC Racing alongside former Italian cycling icon Filippo Pozzato.

Motorsport enthusiasts will recognise Alessandro Pier Guidi, Ferrari factory driver and winner of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans, representing Scuderia Monte-Carlo. The event also welcomes Olympic cyclists Gustav and Veronika Larsson, freediving world record holder Pierre Frolla, and several accomplished international athletes and sports personalities.

Now in its third edition, The Crossing marks a significant milestone through the first official collaboration between the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Throughout the 24-hour relay, athletes will rotate on specially designed water bikes while crossing one of Europe’s most important marine conservation zones.

Beyond the sporting challenge, the initiative aims to raise awareness about two crucial causes: drowning prevention and marine conservation. By combining endurance, teamwork, and environmental responsibility, The Crossing continues to strengthen Monaco’s commitment to promoting positive global impact through sport.
