STROBLHOF Lake Garda: A Private Family Retreat Above the Lake

High above Gargnano, on the quieter western shore of Lake Garda, STROBLHOF Lake Garda Active Family Spa Resort looks across one of northern Italy’s most beautiful landscapes. The lake fills the horizon, mountains rise in the distance, and olive trees, cypresses and palms give the surroundings an unmistakably Mediterranean character.

Opened in March 2025, the five-star resort brings together spacious accommodation, an impressive spa and pool complex, fine dining and extensive facilities for both adults and children. Gargnano and the lakeshore are around 12 minutes away, yet the elevated position within the Alto Garda Bresciano Nature Park gives the hotel considerable space and privacy.

Behind this new address is the Pircher family, whose hospitality roots reach back some 350 years to their original STROBLHOF in Val Passiria, South Tyrol. After discovering the Gargnano site in 2018, the family embarked on an ambitious development process, with construction beginning in 2023. The hotel welcomed its first guests on 28 March 2025.

Designed Around Lake Garda

The view sets the tone throughout the property. Large windows and terraces face the water, while the interiors are contemporary and restrained, with natural materials and warm, neutral tones.

The rooms are spacious, modern and light, with large windows drawing Lake Garda into the interiors. The Double Room Lago starts at a generous 35 square metres, while the suites offer considerably more room to settle in. 60-square-metre Heaven Spa Lago, designed for two to three guests and offering its own private wellness touches - a private sauna and Jacuzzi on the terrace, with the lake stretching out below.

A Spa Worth Staying In For

One of the hotel’s strengths is the way it accommodates different generations without forcing everyone into the same holiday. Families have dedicated pools, entertainment and supervised activities, while adults have their own quieter areas.

At its centre is the adults-only Sky Pool, heated year-round to 33°C and positioned high above the lake. From the water, the panorama extends across Garda towards the Pre-Alps — particularly beautiful during the quieter hours of the morning.

Guests can also move from the heated indoor pool through a floating gate into a 25-metre outdoor pool. A natural bathing pond, free from chemical treatment, sits within the gardens.

The adults-only sauna area includes a 90°C Finnish panorama sauna, aromatic steam bath, infrared loungers, ice fountain and relaxation rooms facing the lake. Massages and treatments complete a spa that is substantial enough to occupy much of the day.

Children have their own heated baby and kids’ pool, water games and indoor slide, keeping family fun separate from the quieter wellness areas.

Active Days for Adults and Children

Lake Garda naturally encourages time outdoors. Hiking and cycling routes run through forests, hills and olive groves, while sailing, kayaking and windsurfing are among the possibilities on the water.

The hotel also runs a seven-day activity programme, with guided hikes, e-bike tours and fitness sessions. There is a padel court for those who prefer a game outdoors, while the gym is fitted with Technogym equipment for both cardio and strength training.

Families are equally well catered for. The Miniclub welcomes children aged four to twelve with childcare and a weekly entertainment programme, while older children and teenagers have their own Teenie Lounge and game room, with table tennis, billiards and air hockey. Outside, there is a playground and football pitch.

For parents, it means there is time to retreat to the Sky Pool or spa while younger guests have plenty to occupy them elsewhere — an arrangement that makes a family holiday feel considerably more relaxed.

The weekly programme goes beyond sport, with visits to nearby towns and villages, as well as wine tastings that offer a closer look at the region.

Lake Garda is often associated with summer, but there is another side to the lake once the busiest months have passed. Autumn and winter bring a slower rhythm, with quieter villages, peaceful walking trails and fewer visitors along the shoreline. STROBLHOF remains open throughout the year, making it possible to experience Garda in these calmer months, when a morning outdoors can be followed by an afternoon in the heated pools and spa overlooking the lake.

Italian Flavours, From Morning to Evening

Food is another important part of the stay, beginning with a generous breakfast centred on fresh regional produce.

The hotel’s premium half-board continues into the evening with a five-star dinner menu, seasonal ingredients, fresh salads and vegetables, vegetarian choices and Mediterranean cuisine. Children aged four to twelve can enjoy full board through the Miniclub kids’ table, with meals created for younger guests.

For lunch, STROBLHOF Osteria is more relaxed. Pasta, pizza, fresh fish, meat, antipasti and vegetarian dishes are served à la carte, with tables overlooking the lake and lemon trees. A wine and cocktail bar and the hotel’s Vinotheque add regional and international wines, with tastings also part of the programme.

Special aperitivo evenings are also part of the programme, offering an easy way to settle into the evening over a drink. On selected nights, live music adds to the atmosphere.

More Than a Resort

There is always something to do at STROBLHOF Lake Garda, whether that means starting the morning with a hike or fitness class, spending the afternoon by the pool, or simply settling into the spa and doing very little at all. Families have plenty to keep younger guests occupied, while adults can easily find quieter corners of their own.

For guests who prefer to leave the planning to someone else, the hotel’s concierge service can assist with organising and booking experiences during the stay, making it easier to explore Lake Garda and the surrounding region without having to arrange every detail independently.

What stays with you, however, is the personal side of the hotel. The Pircher family has been welcoming guests for generations, and that experience is felt in the care given to the details and, above all, to people. There is a warmth to the hospitality that makes STROBLHOF feel less like a large resort and more like a place where you are genuinely being looked after — with Lake Garda just beyond the window.
