U Cavagnëtu: A Cherished Monegasque Tradition Returns with Exciting New Features

Monaco is gearing up for one of its most beloved traditions, U Cavagnëtu—the annual picnic reserved exclusively for Monegasque citizens and their immediate families. This much-anticipated event is set to take place on Saturday, September 7, at the picturesque Parc Princesse Antoinette.

The festivities will kick off at 5:15 p.m., when the park gates open to welcome participants. Entry is restricted to those with valid identification, ensuring the event remains an intimate and family-centered gathering. The evening will begin on a serene note with a mass at 6:20 p.m. held on the park's sports ground, signaling the official start of the celebration.

A Festive Atmosphere with Music and Dance

Following the religious ceremony, attendees will enjoy a communal picnic accompanied by the soothing sounds of the U Cantin d’A Roca choir. For jazz enthusiasts, a special treat is in store as a Quartet led by Lionel Vaudano, a teacher at the Académie Rainier III, will perform during the evening.

Adding to the excitement this year, the 2024 edition of U Cavagnëtu introduces a brand-new feature: a lively ball from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the sports ground. This new addition promises to be a highlight, offering Monegasques a perfect opportunity to dance the night away.

Practical Arrangements for a Smooth Celebration

To ensure everyone can participate with ease, the Town Council has made several practical arrangements. Free access to Monaco's bus network and the Jardin Exotique car park will be provided upon presentation of a Monegasque ID card or event invitation.

However, due to the event, Parc Princesse Antoinette will be closed to the public from Monday, September 2, to Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with a few exceptions. The Cabanon des Jeux in the lower part of the park will remain accessible except on the day of the picnic, while the mini-golf course will be unavailable on September 7, 8, and 9.

U Cavagnëtu is a beautiful expression of Monaco’s rich cultural heritage, bringing the community together in celebration of tradition, family, and the unique spirit of the Principality.
