Ms. Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary at Monaco's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, attended the 17th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP17). This event took place from June 11 to 13, 2024, focusing on the inclusion of disability within the current international context and in preparation for the Summit of the Future.
Ms. Calem-Sangiorgio highlighted the actions already implemented in Monaco to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. She emphasized that rethinking disability inclusion, both visible and invisible, requires raising awareness, effective communication, and comprehensive support. She introduced Monaco's national inclusion plan, "Handipact," launched in 2023 by the Princely Government. This initiative mobilizes all Monegasque stakeholders, both public and private, to enhance accessibility, reception, and inclusion for individuals with all forms of disabilities.
Additionally, during this session, nine members were elected to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. For the first time, a candidate from the European Union, Ms. Inmaculada Placencia Porrero, was among those elected.
