The Yacht Club de Monaco has taken another step toward innovation with the installation of a new intelligent mooring system designed to improve safety and comfort for boats in its marina.
The technology, known as Seadamp, was developed by the Italian company Seares. The hydraulic damping system works by absorbing the impact of waves before the force reaches the mooring lines, significantly reducing the stress placed on them. According to tests carried out in other Mediterranean marinas, the system can cut peak tension on mooring lines by up to 90 percent.
Beyond protecting equipment, the system also improves overall stability for vessels at berth. Studies show it can double the stability of docked boats, reduce pontoon movement by around 50 percent, and lower the motion felt onboard by nearly half — particularly valuable during the winter months when sea conditions are more challenging.
The technology also incorporates a digital monitoring component. Sensors embedded in the system continuously measure the tension on each mooring line and transmit the data to a central control display. If the stress becomes excessive, the system automatically sends an alert, allowing marina staff to respond quickly.
Another innovative feature is its ability to generate its own power. Rather than relying on electricity from the grid, the device produces energy from the natural movement of the surrounding water, contributing to more sustainable marina operations.
Over time, the data collected by the system will provide valuable insights into how marina infrastructure performs under different conditions. This information will allow port managers to make better-informed decisions about maintenance and long-term planning.
The project builds on previous collaboration between the Yacht Club and Seares through Monaco’s Smart Marina programme. The installation also forms part of the club’s broader Capital of Advanced Yachting initiative, which aims to promote innovation and sustainability in marina management.
By introducing this technology, the Yacht Club de Monaco continues to position itself at the forefront of modern yachting infrastructure and environmental responsibility.
